10 skincare FAQs - answered

We know you've got questions. Well, we've got answers. We decided to put together a list of 10 questions that we get asked really often - to help you'll out. If you've got more, keep 'em coming!

Do you own something you really love? Like your car, for example. Does it need servicing and oiling and washing? Why? Yeah, exactly. Your skin NEEDS care because it's the part of you that is constantly exposed to the elements - not to mention a reflection of your genes, the food you eat, everything. Number one step to being well-groomed and fresh, is a clean & clear skin. Stay bright. Stay good.

The sulphates aren't to blame! We are. Products like detergents need harsh surfactants, that doesn't mean they should go in your skincare. These are meant for intense cleansing, but on your skin, they also strip off the skin's essential moisture & leave it hanging dry. Look for products that are SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate) & SLES (Sodium Laureth Ether Sulphate) free!

Brace yourself! The truth is once the pores are opened, they can't be completely closed. You can, however, reduce their appearance by proper cleansing daily & gentle exfoliation bi-weekly.

A. Prevention is better than cure! Apply an SPF before you soak in all that sun. And B. Make up for it after with a de-tanning scrub. Also, tans don't fade overnight. So be patient.

An array of factors such as sun exposure, acne scars, skin rashes etc. contribute to dark spots or pigmented skin areas. Some things you can do: Always put on an SPF before you step into the sun, use cleansers, toners, moisturizers & masks with natural de-pigmentors like licorice, lemon and natural exfoliators like glycolic acid, salicylic acid. You can also try spot treatment products. Be patient, be consistent with your routine, don't look for miracles.

Blame those clogged pores! That's all whiteheads really are. Pro tip: Wash your face twice a day with lukewarm water & follow it with a non-comedogenic moisturizer. Twice a week, scrub!

All skin types, including oily skin, need to moisturize. No discrimination here. People with oily skin usually have the tendency to wash their face multiple times a day. This leads to your glands working over-time which leads to even oiler skin. Pick the right kind, and you'll be good to go.

Antioxidants are the defence compounds that are responsible for fighting uncharged molecules i.e. free radicals. They also reduce the risk of skin-related & other diseases. Consume an antioxidant-rich diet which contains dark chocolate, fruits & green vegetables to stay safe!

Aim at bringing out your natural best glow by scrubbing & masking twice a week. Needless to say, cleanse & moisturize your face twice a day too.

Rough, chapped lips getting you down? Soothe & nourish 'em at home. A must-try DIY lip scrub: Add in 2 tsp. sugar + 1 tsp. unrefined coconut oil + 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract. Stir them properly & gently massage on your lips for 1 min. Rinse off with warm water & feel the smooth.
