The AM/PM Skin Care Routine for Men

How come your skin is... perfect.

It’s a nine-step regimen I do twice a day, it’s not a big deal!

David probably had a dedicated AM/PM Korean skin care routine he religiously followed. And, talking of Korean skin care, BTS anyone? Flawless skin that is almost illegal? No acne scars, blemishes, or flakes but skin that’s forever smooth, forever glowing – almost as revolutionary as their music that keeps taking the world by surprise.

But wait, we are not sending you to Korea or going knocking on the doors of David’s Rose Apothecary asking about his nine-step regimen. We are, instead, simplifying skin care for you – one routine at a time. Let’s face it; in the age of FaceTime and Zoom calls, who wouldn’t want to put their best face forward?  And it is no rocket science we tell you. All you need is a good AM and PM skin care routine that’s simple to follow & skin care products best suited for your skin.

Let’s get started.

The AM skin care routine for guys

Step 1: Cleansing is key

Why: Cleansing your face in the morning is like erasing and then on a fresh page. It helps you get rid of dirt, excess oil, and other pollutants that may have accumulated over the night and start the day on a fresh note. And yes, dirt and oil can stick to your skin even when you are at home.

What to do: Take a sulphate-free face wash that does not strip your skin of its natural oils. Cleanse your face using the face wash, wash off cold or lukewarm water and gently pat dry.

Step 2: Shave or groom your beard

Why: For guys who like to go down the clean-shaven route, shaving after cleansing your face is a good idea since your facial hair is 2x softer after washing it. Shaving, naturally, becomes smoother and easier.

What to do: Start off with a shaving gel and a razor using short, even strokes. Top off with an alcohol-free after-shave when you’re finished.

If you’re more of the bearded guy, cleanse your beard while washing your face. Next, take a few drops of beard oil and massage it onto your beard and the skin underneath. Using a wooden comb, spread the oil evenly.

Step 3: Seal in the moisture

Why: This is the game-changer – for good or worse, in your basic skin care routine. A moisturizer seals in the moisture and keeps your skin hydrated. It is important to choose the right moisturizer for your skin. While a skin care routine for guys with dry skin is less complicated, if you’re someone with oily & acne-prone skin, make sure you steer clear of heavy, greasy formulations & go for light textures.

What to do: Take a little moisturizer and apply it to your face. Massage it in an upward-outward direction to make sure it’s evenly absorbed. And say goodbye to flaky skin!

Step 4: What the sun!

Why: Even while staying indoors, your skin needs an SPF to protect it from the harmful UV rays of the sun that can cause early signs of aging in men and other serious skin concerns.

What to do: After moisturizing your skin, squeeze some sunscreen out on your palm and massage it onto your skin in the same outward-upward motion. Wait for 15 minutes before you go sit on the balcony or step out for essentials.

The PM skin care routine for guys

Step 1: Cleanse

Why: Because you need to get the day’s dirt and grime out of your skin.

What to do: Repeat steps from your morning face care routine of washing your face with a sulphate-free cleanser. Pat dry once done.

Step 2: Moisturize with a night cream

Why: Sealing in moisture is the first step and very crucial to hydrated, glowing skin. Also, your skin repairs and renews itself while you sleep, and the night cream acts as a barrier by preventing your skin from drying out.  Additionally, it also helps in boosting collagen that boosts the overall health of your skin and prevents signs of early aging.

What to do: Apply a moisturizer right after washing your face, preferably on damp skin. This helps seal in the hydration more effectively. Moisturizing is a step that is a must in the night skin care routine for oily skin or dry.

The Final Word

While you definitely do not need skin care shipped all the way from Korea or a nine-step regime to have clear, healthy, and glowing skin, following a routine is key. Sporadically a skin care regime alternate day a week and then completely forgetting about the rest of it isn’t going to give results. The products you use don’t really matter as long as you are using what suits your skin type and does not contain harmful chemicals that may harm your skin.
